NIA U-CAN Scholarship

U-CAN collaborates with all HBCUs to identify all scholarships offered by the college or university, including academic athletic, performance based and/or special awards. Since its inception, U-CAN has secured over $55,000,000 in scholarships for over 3,000 students. Scholarships are projected over a four year period.

During the 2005/2006 year, U-CAN partnered with; Texas Southern University to offer 24 scholarships saving students $144,000.00, Dillard University to offer 20 scholarships and Bennett College for Women to offer 19 scholarships.

U-CAN also joined with Nehemiah Education Foundation of Nehemiah Corporation of America to offer over 50 scholarships worth over $50,000.00 for U-CAN students.

U-CAN has also partnered with Twin Rivers Unified School District.

U-CAN established the Noglia Rowe-Leach Memorial Scholarship in 2005 in memory of the sister of U-CAN founder Alan Rowe. The scholarships are awarded to U-CAN students who are matriculating to an HBCU. Scholarships are awarded to students who have demonstrated academic excellence or potential, leadership skills and church and/or community service.

U-CAN established the Rev. Merlin McCauley Memorial Scholarship in 2008 in memory of the brother of U-CAN founder Donna Rowe. The scholarships are awarded to U-CAN students who are matriculating to an HBCU. Scholarships are awarded to students who have demonstrated academic excellence or potential, leadership skills and are actively involved in their local church and may enter into the ministerial field.

In 2012, NIA of Sacramento established a NIA U-CAN Scholarship for a U-CAN student who is matriculating to an HBCU. Scholarships are awarded to students who have demonstrated academic excellence or potential, leadership skills and community service.

In 2013, the Auntine Burney Memorial Scholarship is being established in honor of a long time community leader and activist in the Del Paso Heights community of Sacramento. The scholarships are awarded to U-CAN students who are matriculating to an HBCU. Scholarships are awarded to students who have demonstrated academic excellence or potential, leadership skills and community service.

In 2013, the Dr. Hazel Mahone Scholarship is being established by longtime educator, professor, and U-CAN Vice President to a deserving student. The scholarships are awarded to U-CAN students who are matriculating to an HBCU. Scholarships are awarded to students who have demonstrated academic excellence or potential, leadership skills, interest in majoring in education and community service.
